Big Men CAN Fly

dwight-howard.jpg

Dispelling a huge myth, Dwight Howard has proven once and for all: Big Men Can Fly.

At 6-11, Howard soared to the 2008 Dunk Contest Title in New Orleans, riding a slew of props, including teammate Jameer Nelson and even a nice and tasty dessert, to beat out much-hyped Rudy Gay and Timberwolves' dark horse Gerald Green. In fact, some experts are comparing Howard's super-athletic performance to classic showdowns including Dominique Wilkins, Vince Carter, Michael Jordan, and Julius Erving.

This is an awesome thing--yet again--for the NBA. One, because let's be honest--the most popular players are in the big game (obviously). With the All-Star weekend expandind to like 421 events overall, having stars like Howard in what is supposed to be a major highlight of the weekend is a necessity. Not to disrespect Gay or Green, but come on--those guys aren't what pull in ratings or fans.

With Gay pulling in the masses with his YouTube request--this may have been the most ingenious of them all and hopefully will continue to be utilized to connect to a totally different audience, the NBA should be able to keep this as one of the pinnacle of the All-Star break. With multimedia needs becoming more and more in demand, it had better stay ahead of the pace during this extremely flashy affair.
