Bird says change is a comin'

birdobrien.jpg

Larry Bird has had to endure a lot of things as president of basketball for the Indiana Pacers. Not only has the team continued to wallow in the middle of the pack to the cellar in the eastern conference, he's also had to deal with several changes with players, issues with the law and his team, and injuries to the Pacers' biggest stars. So, what's the answer? Change.

Well duh.

Actually, it is kind of funny that this statement of "change is coming" is happening now; it comes as there was criticism that the Pacers didn't make any moves prior to the trade deadline, despite the fact that they are probably out of the playoffs but yet not bad enough to have a great chance at a high draft pick, and also have no timetable as to when Jermaine O'Neal would return to the team--if at all--this season.

My take on this statement is that O'Neal, Jamaal Tinsley, and possibly others will be shipped out this summer. The Pacers will look probably pretty awful next year, but I can see them making some big trades and making the season after next what they are shooting for again--the playoffs.
