Brand having a rough offseason, will undergo surgery

Elton Brand, the soft-spoken but powerful leader for the Los Angeles Clippers, injured his achilles tendon and will undergo surgery. Brand, who averaged almost 21 points a game for the Clips, although they did not make the playoffs, had already scratched himself from the US National team because of another injury.

The rupturing of an achilles tendon is not something to take lightly, and it could really affect his pivot moves down low if he has any nagging issues after all is said and done, even counting injury. The Clippers just can't seem to get away from big-time injuries from big-time guys (Shaun Livingston had a season-ender halfway through last season). Is the team cursed? Clips fans will say a resounding YES, I assume.

Brand ruptured his tendon during his daily workout. The plans for surgery have not yet been finalized but it's pretty clear that something of this magnitude will force him under the knife. Either way, it's a blow to both Brand and to the Clippers to start the year, because there will be no way he'll be game-ready for quite some time.
