Brand to be back soon for Clips

ebrand.jpg

The Clippers have had, well, another Clippers-like season. Basketball's version of the Chicago Cubs just can't seem to get things going despite actually making some decently shrewd moves off the court. What has really been the biggest problem has been long-term injuries. Shaun Livingston was decimated last year, and their team leader, Elton Brand, has been out for what seems like eternity with a ruptured Achilles tendon.

However, Brand is scheduled to be back as early as this Thursday against Sacramento. Without Brand this year, the Clippers have gone 22-51. Not that it's totally his fault, but we're talking about a scorer and a rebounder for them--it's apparent that they needed him immensely. Not to mention that Brand's contract is at the stage that at the end of the season, he can opt out of it with Los Angeles, which would yet be another blow to the un-storied franchise.

Will he go? Probably. Even with the injury, playing for the Clippers, even though they may have a better record than Seattle, Minnesota, and Miami, is like playing a step above the D-League. They can't compete against the Lakers for fans, they can't win games, and Brand could still take a new contract for a decent team and still be very effective. Sorry, LA.
