By George: Kidd deal blocked

deveangeorgemavs.jpg

Here I am reporting on all of these big things happening with Jason Kidd going to the Mavericks again and BOOM!--Just like John Madden would say--the deal has hit a snag and maybe even been totally blocked. Why? Some hair-brained clause that Devean George, who was involved in the 8 player deal, has exercised called "early Bird rights" (after Larry Bird did this a while ago).

I read this on Fox Sports, but even as much as I watch and know sports, this seems like something out of left field, whereby a player who is in his second year of a contract with a second team or something has the right to void any player moves, etc. Whatever happened to the good ole' fashioned days where players were sent and that was that? Now we have salary caps, future draft picks, cash, contract clauses, grandfathering, all of these buzzwords that simply have flourished due to sports agents and players' unions.

I understand that there should be some type of player say in certain things, but when is enough enough? This seems trivial at best and it just causes more headaches for management to get the deal done. No word yet whether this does block the deal altogether, but evidently George is happy where he is at and starting. Ummm..sorry, chief, but if you block this deal, how much playing time do you think this is going to lose you? Your TEAM IS TRYING TO GET RID OF YOU.

Buck up, little camper. I know it's Jersey you are going to, but you are making a lot of money, ya know.
