Can Stefanski save the Sixers?

The Philadelphia 76ers used to be one of the big guns--one of the toughest teams to face, all the way back to Julius Erving. However, for the last several years, the Sixers were basically a one-man show of Allen Iverson--now they haven't even got that after Iverson was traded to Denver.

Houston--er--Philly--we have a problem.

And in one flail swoop, GM Billy King is gone, and enter Ed Stefanski. But wait--is this the same Stefanski that is/was the GM of the Nets? You betcha--and he couldn't be happier. He's from Philly and loves the lore of the Sixers, so this is a dream job for him. However, one of the things that he faces is tremendously uphill--definitely without the team core that he had in New Jersey of Jason Kidd, Vince Carter, and Richard Jefferson. Sure, the Sixers may have youth on their side, but one of the reasons that King was let go was because management did not want to wait on his "three year" plan after Iverson was traded; therefore it's pretty obvious he better win--and win quickly.

My thinking is that the first on the chopping block as Stefanski brings in his own "thing" is that Coach Maurice Cheeks will not have his contract renewed for next year--and I believe that the Sixers will do one of two things--either trade away Andre Iguodala for a multi-player deal or draft picks. Or--give away some draft picks to get another good middle-tier player and build, build, build.

Just be prepared for a very different team--and for Stefanski's sake, it hopefully will be a winner.
