Samuel Dalembert, a center for the Philadelphia 76ers, has been sworn in as a Canadian citizen on Tuesday, which gives him the chance to play for the Canadian National team. Dalembert almost averaged a double-double for an otherwise hapless team last year, and his Canadian nationals coach, Leo Rautins, couldn't be happier that he is joining the team.
Dalembert grew up in Port-Au-Prince, Haiti, until his teens, but much of his family is in Montreal, and he even won a Quebec High School Championship. This is an important gain for the Canadian team, as they are currently starting to train for a Pre-Olympic Qualifying Tournament. Dalembert wanted to play for Canada in 2003 but the details did not work out (he had surgery anyways). This also benefits the Sixers, as he gets more world experience to help them this year (hopefully!).
Congrats on your new citizenship, Samuel, and welcome back!!
