Did Bulls make right move in ditching Wallace?

ben_wallace.jpg

Ben Wallace came to Chicago with the attitude, desire, and was an experienced winner through his time with the Detroit Pistons. However, after some pretty decent seasons with the Bulls, he has been shipped off to Cleveland, as the Bulls were able to get Larry Hughes and Drew Gooden in the deal.

But—there seems to be a lot of negative feedback coming from the Windy City, because now the adage is that the Bulls are a team full of guards. Ok, with Kirk Hinrich and Ben Gordon, sure they had a great backcourt already, but Hughes is a decent move and can spell the both of them, allowing them greater chemistry and attack options with guard play. Yes, the Bulls lost a pretty big defender in Wallace and a tough rebounder, but the fact is that Wallace has been on the decline pretty much as soon as he donned a Chicago uniform. Detroit pretty much knew that and didn’t want to pay Wallace the money he thought he deserved; when he got to Chicago, his numbers decreased every year.

I believe that Bulls fans will be singing a different tune when they realize that the jewel of the deal was Gooden. Still maturing and still learning the game overall, he can bang with the big guys and can be a scorer if needed. He is athletic, young, and a much better investment than Wallace is. Does this mean the team is throwing in the towel for this season? Absolutely not. Patience, grasshopper, patience.
