Eddie Griffin, 25, Killed in Car Crash

The sad, sad life of Eddie Griffin. He had a gift, but he wasted it like so many other tragic tales of youth gone bad. From being expelled in high school to his recent arrests for several different things, Griffin was on a road of perdition for quite some time.

Last week, that road officially came to an end in a fiery crash with his SUV. Griffin, who had recently been waived by the Timberwolves, averaged 7 points a game over 5 NBA seasons. As many that knew him noted, basketball was easy. Life off the court wasn't.

A police report says Griffin was driving an SUV, ignored a railroad warning and went through a barrier before striking a moving freight train. The resulting fire burned the SUV and the side of a railcar carrying plastic granules, police said.

Griffin's body was badly burned and there was no initial identification. Dental records later revealed the man was Griffin.

Another reason to say that money and fame can't bring you happiness. To say that Griffin was a tortured soul is an understatement.
