Full Circle: Kidd returns to Mavs

kiddmavs.jpg

Jason Kidd trade rumors had been swirling for...well, forever. The New Jersey Nets haven't had a really great team for a while despite the level of talent that has been there and the expensive contracts that followed. So, with that being said, they decided to finally pull the trigger with one of the most wheeling-and-dealing owners out there: Mark Cuban.

Although the trade is not official yet, Kidd will be traded back to the team that started his career, the Dallas Mavericks. In return, the Nets get to cut a large salary and get some youth--most notably guard Devin Harris. This is a long-term win-win for both teams overall, although the no-brainer is that Dallas is gaining the biggest impact benefit by getting Kidd, who although 35, is still at the top of his game and can add another level of wow to an already good team.

However, remember that a lot of people thought the same when Allen Iverson went to Denver. His teaming up with Carmelo Anthony was supposed to lead to the NBA's next big team. And....here we are...and the Nuggets are still---well, they are decent, but the next? Naaah...However, I shouldn't really compare Kidd with Iverson, because their games are so different. Kidd's assist numbers should go through the roof, and while his points and rebounds will probably go a little lower, the overall effect is that the Mavericks should immediately be thinking title--and that's exactly what Cuban wanted.
