Garnett absence not straining Celtics

kgarn.jpg

When Kevin Garnett signed on with the Boston Celtics, he brought with him a passion for a title and also a pretty clean injury report. However, due to a pretty intense abdominal strain, he has missed almost 10 games for Boston. One would therefore think that Garnett's absence would be a deterrent to the Celts; however, they have actually gone 7-2 and won five in a row.

Now, fans of the NBA know that's not exactly mind-boggling; with Garnett, Boston was 34-5, so it's not as if they don't have other weapons--there IS a reason why they have another "Big Three" there. But this may actually play out to be a long-term good thing for Boston, regardless of if KG can come back this week. Being that they have a stranglehold on the East, they can afford for their players to get some rest and get themselves ready for the playoff stretch; I wouldn't put it past Ray Allen to come up with an "ailment" to get some rest as well--it really won't hurt their chances to retain the top seed in the conference and then get the team primed for the championship run everyone has pre-crowned them with even before the season began.

With all of the huge trades going down, it'd be an even smarter move for each one of the big guns to take a few games off here and there, not only for the rest purpose of it, but it also gives invaluable experience to the role players who they WILL need in the postseason.
