Garnett to Celtics: What this means to Boston

Ok, so I was one of the nonbelievers who raised an eyebrow even "The Rock" would be jealous of when Danny Ainge went after Ray Allen on draft night. What was he thinking, trading local talent Jeff Green to the Sonics, who had already gotten phenom Kevin Durant? It didn't make sense.

The plot thickens. Now, Ainge has made what seems to be a blockbuster trade in getting Kevin Garnett from the T-wolves. Garnett, who understandably is frustrated with Minnesota's front office and their lack of gaining ongoing talent to assist him, now has a pretty darn good supporting cast in Boston, playing beside Paul Pierce and Allen. Will this suddenly signal a playoff spot for Boston?

More than likely---yes.

Why? The Eastern Conference is not as strong as it used to be, with perennial powers Detroit and now Cleveland. While Toronto has been the team on the rise over the last few years, the Celtics could very well conjure up not only a playoff spot, but maybe even a division title.

Whoa, you say? Ok...I'll whoa. I understand that Pierce has been pretty lethargic with his attitude and with his missed games, but wouldn't you have wanted to just sit on the sidelines when your team is beyond dismal? Not that it's an excuse, but I don't see Pierce staying out as many games as he did last year, and I think with Allen, who has always been a workhorse with a great attitude, this makes a formidable team, regardless of how weak their bench players are. Give Ainge some credit--he's making some big moves, and it will be minimal time before it pays off.
