Go West, Young Man: Hawks beat another Western Big Bully

I don't get it....The Hawks started out so sluggish and once again underachieving. Then they faced a brutal opening two weeks, but still--this was the team that was supposed to be on the up and up, but they just didn't seem to get it going, even against good competition. Ok, maybe sluggish was too harsh. They did start out with a win over Dallas and then lost to the Pistons and the Nets by a total of six whole points before beating Phoenix at home.

What gives? Well, Marvin Williams is what gives--a lot. He scored 20 and got 12 boards against the Suns, giving the sellout crowd in Atlanta plenty to cheer about. Plus Josh Smith scored 22 and rook Al Horford grabbed 15 boards. All in all,it added to a HUGE win in a big way.

But Atlanta can't complain about breaking even against a brutal opening stretch, which includes five playoff teams among the first six games. The Hawks already have beaten two teams -- Dallas and Phoenix -- that won more than 60 games last season. If they can turn around those close games by capitalizing on the boards and the rookies Horford and Acie Law growing up quickly, we may be seeing a dark horse in the East.
