Still, "The Dream" was and is a Houston icon, despite the fact that the current team has had another big man that has been embraced by the Rockets community (Yao Ming). So when it was announced that the city of Houston was honoring Olajuwon with a monument, it was no surprise to pretty much--anybody, much like when Chicago honored Michael Jordan with a bronze statue outside of the United Center.
Olajuwon was purely dominant at the center position and lead the Rockets to two championships, garnering the MVP trophy for both of those NBA titles. He was always a classy player in the NBA AND in College--he also played for the University of Houston when they had their "Phi Slamma Jamma" team in the early 80s.
Congrats, Hakeem, you certainly deserve it.
