Jazz give Warriors the blues

We all thought it was certainly something to see the Warriors top the seemingly invincible Dallas Mavericks in round one, and rightfully so; Golden St. had played lethargicly during the regular season, and no one thought their depth and game was up to speed with the NBA's elite. On the same token, many critics at the beginning of the season thought this would be a rebuilding and improvement for the Utah Jazz, but nothing that would be all that spectacular.

While critics are rarely spot on, they did have it correct with Jazz after a blistering start, and the Warriors tip-toed into the playoffs. And while the Jazz defeated the Warriors to advance to the Western Conference finals, was it something of note to relish? Of course--you have to be a good team to get to the finals, but let's face it--the Warriors played their hearts out against the Mighty Mavs, and the gas pedal was just stuck the entire series against Utah.

Plus, you can't overlook the fact that the youth of the Jazz may have had a huge impact on this series, with Deron Williams, Mehmet Okur, and Carlos Boozer taking over games seemingly at will. While the Warriors boasted the energy of Jason Richardson, Baron Davis, and Stephen Jackson, the Jazz didn't believe the hype and took care of business.

Now what? Well, they wait for the Suns or the Spurs, both of whom are playing great ball. The timing couldn't be better for the Jazz, because in order to defeat Phoenix or San Antonio, they'll need all of the rest they can get. Congratulations to Utah on advancing, and thanks to Golden St. for bringing the underdog mentality back to the NBA.
