Jury Selection Begins in Knicks' Sexual Harassment Suit

Things just have not gone well for the Knicks over the last several years, and it could be getting worse--although the team had a great draft and is on the rebound it seems on the court, it now faces a huge publicity issue with a $10 million sexual harassment suit against Isiah Thomas and Madison Square Garden. Anucha Browne Sanders, a former Northwestern basketball star, is seeking reinstatement to her job and hefty damages after spending five years with the storied franchise.

She was dismissed from the team in January 2006 for not "fulfilling professional responsibilities" from MSG, but she claims that she was fired for telling the truth. While there are some illicit tales of Thomas' request of the Knicks' boss had said he loved her and asked her to "go off site" with him as well as trying to kiss her at work, this is truly a he-said she-said debacle for New York. Among claims made in court papers by lawyers for Browne Sanders is that Thomas once urged a cheerleader to flirt with referees. Thomas has denied the allegation.
In a deposition, Browne Sanders testified that the cheerleader said Thomas asked her to go into the referees' locker rooms before a game against the New Jersey Nets and make them "happy."

Either way, this will go on for a while, and even if the Knicks are cleared, there is clearly damage done already.
