Kevin, your time is now: Lewis leaves Sonics

Many on draft night started to speculate highly about the Sonics and their immediate future. After all was said and done, they had done a bang-up job in terms of wheeling and dealing, drafting, and all-around great management of a team that looked dismal last season.

But alas, all good things must come to an end. While prognosticators predicted that Rashard Lewis would be re-signed with the Sonics after it was apparent they were making the future NOW, not even a week after a stellar outlook had the Sonics thinking playoffs, Lewis has signed with the Orlando Magic.

Kevin Durant, your time is now.

While this team may not now be sitting in the driver's seat as far as playoffs are concerned, don't underestimate the abilities of Mr. Durant and incoming rookie Jeff Green. These guys can play, it will just take some time and experience before they are blowing the doors off the rest of the league. Lewis, who was reported to have been sought by over 20 teams, signed a "maximum contract" of five years with the Magic, with the potential for the Sonics to actually sign-and-trade which would give him a sixth year.

I wonder if somewhere Billy Donovan is trying to close his gaping mouth. What's that song by Little Texas? "What Might have beeeeeeeeeeeen"......
