K-Mart no longer a blue light special

Kevin Martin had a breakout year in 2006-2007. In 2008-2009, he'll start to see the dividends. Why? The Sacramento Kings announced today that Martin has been inked to a five-year extension of his current contract that will give him a total amount of 55 milllllliiiiionnnn dollllars (cue Dr. Evil pose).

Martin's new salary puts up amongst the best of the best? But is he that good? He patterned his game after Rip Hamilton and now makes as much as he does--and the Kings aren't really a potential windfall of a team in terms of playoff and championship potential--but when they tendered their first offer of 43 million, Martin and his agent obviously knew the team was interested in keeping him along for whatever ride they take him on.

The deal is also one of the most lucrative of the offseason--the Magic's Rashard Lewis still has the most gaudiest--but I believe that Lewis' is well deserved--I know that Martin has game, but 55 million worth? What's next, PJ Brown signs as a free agent for 50 mil? Come on guys...
