This man wants to be traded, at least for the next couple of minutes.
The big news in the NBA today (aside from Carlos Delfino being traded to the Raptors...wait, nobody cares? Really?) is Kobe Bryant's European Vacation (tm) to meet with Jerry Buss and reiterate his demand to be traded. Apparently Buss was so taken aback by this request that he still doesn't know whether or not he's going to trade the superstar. Of course the Lakers are only confirming that the meeting took place on the planet Earth and that Kobe and Buss had a small order of flan, but then again did you expect anything less?
I'm sure Buss is waiting for Kobe to change his mind and rescind the request, but as we all know Kobe isn't a guy who changes his mind easily. If I were him I'd tell Kobe to shut up and honor his contract. I mean Kobe knew Mitch Kupchak was a horrible GM when he signed right? Was there any move that he made that would give you any faith in his abilities? Now all of a sudden after a couple years of Kupchak making bad trades and drafting projects that could work out in about five years or so, Kobe has had enough. It's like going to McDonald's and complaining that the food isn't as good as an expensive restaurant. YOU KNEW WHAT YOU WERE GETTING WHEN YOU SIGNED THE CONTRACT KOBE! Kupchak is no Jerry West and has proven that over the past few years at the helm. Either way the Lakers are screwed in this. They either have a distraction in a disgruntled Kobe, Kupchak will make a shortsighted trade to try and keep Kobe happy, but screw up the future in the process, or he'll just trade Kobe and get FAR less than market value. Just a disaster waiting to happen folks any way you slice it. I'm sure all the bandwagon Laker fans are already snagging their Elton Brand Clipper jerseys.
The upside to all of this is that it gives us all something to talk about this offseason. Where's Kobe headed? What garbage will the Lakers get for him? Will Phil just throw his hands up and walk out? What does Jack Nicholson think? Lots of intrigue folks.
All I know is that I'm burning up the ESPN Trade Machine trying to figure out various crazy Kobe trades. I'm sure Mitch Kupchak is doing the same thing as we speak....
