Lakers can win championship? Now that's funny

farmar.jpgAn article by Yahoo!'s resident basketball expert discusses the possibility of the Lakers being able to win the NBA Championship.

I'll wait while you either stop laughing or clean off your mouth after you've thrown up a little bit.

Either way, this guy must be joking. There are key points about the youth movement headed by Jordan Farmar and Andrew Bynum. It of course references Kobe Bryant's "will" to win another championship. Again, seriously?

The Lakers are not even close to championship material at this point. Number 1, the talent in the Western conference is so deep that the playoffs are like mini-championships in themselves. The defending champs, the Spurs, still have so much depth, and with their defense-first philosophy as well as execution, is heads and above better than anything the Lakers can throw up. The Suns look great still, the Jazz are struggling but still extremely comparable, and the Blazers are playing the best ball in the league. And even if---IF--they get past these big guns, then more than likely the big bad Celtics will await, and with their all-star lineup, the Lakers wouldn't have a prayer.

I can't believe that this is even a thought--perhaps in five years if they have the exact same team and Kobe has learned to pass the ball more than 2 times a game and actually scrap for a rebound--they will be ready to make a run. But now? Not a chance.
