Lakers make statement against Mavs

kobe-bryant-6-med.jpg

Sure, both of the teams looked very different than the last time they met. Sure, the big name players had more support than they normally did. But the outcome was something the Mavericks didn’t expect when they lost to the Lakers by 4 in overtime.

Newly acquired Jason Kidd had a chance to tie the game in the last minute of overtime after he was fouled by the Lakers’ Pau Gasol on a layup. However, Kidd, an 81% free throw shooter, came up very short on the free throw, and the Lakers sealed the game. Kobe Bryant had an outstanding game, garnering 52 points and 11 rebounds. In the second half, you could tell that Bryant had that “look” in his eyes, famous for taking over games, and that’s just what he did.

Dirk Nowitzki’s three pointer at the end of regulation sent it into overtime, but his attempt at the end of the overtime was well short of the rim, and the Lakers celebrated as if they had won the Western Conference title. And folks—you may well be seeing these two meet in the finals, so let’s hope that these games can be played with this much drama.
