All of the big names were sitting in the waiting room for the NBA draft. Oden, Durant, Brewer, Jianlian, Law, the list goes on and on. While these guys were sure to get NBA big bucks and big playing time, a developmental player by the name of Juan Carlos Navarro started playing with the Memphis Grizzlies.
The Spanish 6-3 guard was known for his sharp shooting, but he immediately brought more of an all-around game to the team after he got some real playing time against the Jazz in early November. Just a week later, he was starting, and the stats started pouring in. While the consistency has yet to make its "mark", he has already scored more than 16 points in 8 games. Not too shabby.
The Memphis Grizzlies are still a team on the move and building up quality players, and they may have just found one in Mr. Navarro. Another example where being the unknown gym rat really pays off more in terms of performance than the signing-day bonus babies.
