I need to readjust my glasses, apparently. I thought I just read that there was a senior in the draft. No way that's possible, right? Well, in Acie Law's case, you betcha it's right. Law is the "man" of the draft. Being in such a class of great big men and flashy guards, Law shows the consistent and calm nature that teams desire in a point guard, and if it weren't for super-phenom Mike Conley Jr., who has a lot more hype than numbers, Law would be heads and above the best guard in the draft.
I like this guy, particularly because of his shooting ability from the outside. There are not many players, mind you guards, that can boast a 50% shooting percentage for a year. Likewise, his 45% from the arc is mind-boggling, and he can take over a game literally anytime he wants--but he doesn't choose to all the time, which may have been why Texas A&M exited earlier than many thought they would.
However, for the flamboyant NBA, a negative on Law is that he is not the slasher, dipsy-do type of guard, the wiry contortionist that Conley is. His athletic ability is maybe something that NBA GMs will go "hmmmm..." to, because quicker guards will be able to harass him to no end since he is not the driving type of guard in any sense of the word.
Still, you've got to love that the strength he has is the ability to make an impact, due to his experience and spot-up shooting ability. Many a guard has made it far in the NBA without an explosive first step or crossover dribble, and Law will be one of them. He may not go ahead of Conley, but he may very well finish ahead of him.
