NBA Draft Preview: Al Thornton

No other player in this prediction preseason for the NBA draft has jumped leaps and bounds like Al Thornton. The mature, lanky shooter from Florida State has many tools that the NBA suits are looking for--a leader with size, shooting ability, who can shoot from the charity stripe consistently and still offer banging on the boards.

Thornton can basically shoot from anywhere, but within the normal NCAA arc, he's deadly. For four straight years the 6-8 swingman has shot over 50%, even as his attempts per game rose dramatically. He averaged nearly 20 points a game for a 22-13 squad, and his rebounds improved every year to almost 7.5 a game.

While Thornton can shoot, his passing is not only suspect, it's just downright awful. He turned the ball over almost 3 times a game this year, and he had a penchant for making bad decisions at critical times. GMs also may actually use his maturity against him, because as we all know, fresh legs mean longer contracts and more room for improvement.

Don't underscore the fact that Thornton has a ton of athletic ability, and he will have to improve his ballhandling and passing in the NBA. He is a great player and he will succeed-bet on it!!
