NBA Draft Preview: Corey Brewer

Ok, ok, so many people pointed out that Joakim Noah and Al Horford carried the Florida Gators on their back to the NCAA Finals. Others will say that Lee Humphrey's dead-aim shooting from long-distance kept teams honest, and that Taurean Green's leadership as the point guard made them complete. Not so fast my friend....because without Corey Brewer, this team does not make it to the finals.

Brewer is the electric, defense-first minded "3" player that did a lot of the dirty work for Florida, and his shooting improvement during the tourney run catpulted the Gators to back-to-back titles. Not only does the 6'9" frame he holds and the wingspan dominate the defensive end, but it also allows him to be an effective passer. While he's small in proportion (only 185 lbs), this allows that tall, slender body to literally quick-step past many larger, slower players. His knack near the rim is enviable.

Still, for that size and weight, Brewer may end up getting pushed around more if he doesn't put on weight. Overall, his outside shooting is streaky and if he wants to be an effective "3" in the NBA, his jumper must improve. While teams will covet his defensive ability (some have said that he reminds of a young Gary Payton during his "glove" days), his offensive input will determine his legacy at the top level. Brewer should go in the top 10 for sure.
