NBA Draft Review: The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly

It's all over--the party we've been waiting for after clamoring for almost a month. There were a few surprises, some not, some just plain head-scratching. We laughed, we cried, we turned our TVs on mute. The solace is that now we can all play armchair quarterbacks (or would it be...GMs?) and give our two cents on what went down.

The Good:

Portland--Greg Oden. That's all that's needed to say. Oh, and I believe they got a steal in McRoberts in the second round. He may not be all that and a bag of chips right now, but neither was Shane Battier out of college.

Seattle--Kevin Durant. That's also all that's needed to say. And strangely, they made themselves better by getting rid of a former all-star Ray Allen and picking up Jeff Green in the process. The teams in the northwest are definitely ready to play. Great moves by the Sonics may have them thinking playoffs already.

New York--Yes, you read it right. The Knicks had a heckuva draft. By getting Wilson Chandler and then dealing for Zach Randolph, you now have a team that is primed to move up in their division in style.

The Bad:

Boston--Paul Pierce is probably thinking about going and buying a bullet and renting a gun. Danny Ainge certainly didn't win any fans at the draft, trading for Allen and then giving up the 5 pick. They did get Glen Davis, which ain't half bad, but still....geeeesh.

Philadelphia--how does a team garner 3--yes THREE--picks in the first round and end up with names like Thaddeus Young, Jason Smith, and Derrick Byars?? Young was by far the biggest gasp of the night, taken before the likes of Al Thornton and Julian Wright. Perhaps I am just needing to smoke some of what they have brewing there in the city of brotherly love, 'cuz I don't get it....

The Ugly:

Milwaukee--the Yi Jianlian saga begins, and it has gotten off the starting line slower than a turtle. Evidently they want nothing to do with the Bucks, and so the process begins of what happens next. Jianlian should be happy he went so early, not naysaying the beer capital of the world.

LA Lakers--Somewhere Kobe is writing his next speech, perhaps this one being penned by Slim Shady. Nothing against Javaris Crittendon, but--didn't they just get Jordan Farmar last year? This move does nothing for the Lakers, and they already blew a deal for Kevin Garnett, already had an issues of happiness with Bryant, so---what now? Better use some of those Zen powers, Phil Jackson.

There you have it. All of those hours of waiting nutshelled just for you. Enjoy......
