NBA Final Four Set: Cavs-Pistons and Spurs-Jazz

We have had a season of so many ups and downs and all-arounds that I can't keep up. From the breakthrough performers to the mainstay stars of the league, the NBA once again has proven that nothing is inevitable--and the playoffs have proven that as well. While the Pistons have basically written themselves into the conference finals the past half-decade, for them to reach this point was no surprise to anyone. For the Cavaliers to be there is a bit eyebrow-raising, but many have thought that Lebron James' rising path towards "Jordanesque" stature have claimed this step was almost a no-brainer as well.

However, the West has been less easy to predict than whether Shrek 3 will overcome Spiderman 3. On paper, the obvious choices were to have a showdown with bitter rivals Dallas and Phoenix. Lo and behold, they'll be scratching their heads in confusion for months as we get treated to the San Antonio Spurs versus the Utah Jazz. Here I thought the Jazz would be making a first round exit, and they are looking as strong as ever. Meanwhile, the painfully consistent Spurs with Tim Duncan and Manu Ginobili playing amazing defense and executing well on offense, look like the team to beat now that they dispatched the Suns. Even Detroit doesn't want to play this team now.

My picks: Spurs and Pistons in the NBA finals. I know, I know, this isn't any groundbreaking news, but while it does seem pretty well decided before the teams even step on the floors, be careful to watch how the series translates into the futures of these teams, because while right now the Spurs and Pistons are the mainstays of the league, the Cavs and the Jazz are definitely working towards taking their spots. It will be good, but not good enough for there to be upsets at this juncture.
