NBA Live Blog: First Round Picks 1-5

NBA_Draft_logo.bmp

Gotta love the old school NBA Draft logo

Here we are folks, the 2007 NBA Draft. This is being dubbed the "DEEPEST DRAFT EVAR~!" (unless you're Stephen A. Smith) and it's time to get it kicked off. I'm over at my friend Ian's (who you will remember from the NFL Draft Live Blog) so let's get it going!

7:30: Let's get it started folks! ESPN has Jay Bilas, Marc Jackson, Mike Tirico and STEPHEN A. SMITH on the main set along with a cast of thousands in other random locales. Dickie V is live as well from his home where he freak out anytime someone takes a foreign player. Gotta love the NBA Draft!

7:35: Stephen A. is very emphatic when talking about how great the Blazers management has been, and how they should draft Oden....here comes Stern!

7:36: With the first pick in the 2007 Draft, the Blazers take Greg Oden. I don't know about you but I didn't see this coming at all. Oden is wearing a normal looking suit, nothing too flashy and he's not making the same mistake Jalen Rose made back in the day.

7:37: They show the Blazers draft room who's giving themselves a standing O. Um, was this really a hard pick or something?

7:39: Stu Scott is ragging on Oden for being wringing his hands nervously as he waited for Portland to pick, and he busts on him saying that he was only santizing his hands to shake David Stern's hand. Nice. Way to punk out Stu. Too bad I will always hate you because you are a Buckeye, Greg.

7:41: In another shocker the Sonics take Kevin Durant with the number two pick. My mock draft is already screwed up. WHO SAW THIS COMING?!?! In bigger news ESPN is reporting that the Sonics and Celtics have made a trade. Here are the details

Celtics Get: Ray Allen

Sonics Get: #5 Pick, Delonte West, and Wally Sczerbiak

Gotta love what the Sonics are doing. If they resign Lewis they could contend for the playoffs next year. Don't know what the Celtics are doing here. Ray Allen is getting up there in age and I don't know if he's the guy to put alongside Paul Pierce to make this a solid team.

7:45: Durant does his interview with Stu and shows that he pretty much has zero personality. Stu then calls out the fact that Durant has a crush on Beyonce and Kevin looks uncomfortable. Stu Scott strikes again!

7:47: With the third pick in the 2007 Draft the Hawks select Al Horford. Not a surprise here since the Hawks just love taking forwards. Um, does this mean Shelden Williams and Marvin Williams aren't working out? I really like Horford but you have to wonder about his NBA future because the Hawks never draft well.

7:50: Stephen A. makes the obvious point that the Hawks probably should have taken a point guard. Really? The Hawks need a point guard?

7:51: Al Horford speaks four languages. Just thought I'd let you know since apparently Stu Scott found this tidbit fascinating.

7:52: With the fourth pick in the 2007 Draft the Grizzlies select Mike Conley. Now there's the point guard the Hawks probably should have taken. Hopefully this doesn't turn into another Marvin Williams/Chris Paul situation.

7:54: Jay Bilas just said that Conely was just as good as Chris Paul and Deron Williams coming out. Hmm, I think that may be a little bit of a leap.

7:55: They just showed an old video of Mike Conley Sr. doing a slam dunk from the free throw line. If this were now he would have been drafted in the top five just on upside even if he couldn't shoot.

7:57: With the fifth pick in the 2007 Draft the Celtics (Sonics) select Jeff Green. Green of course will be traded to Seattle as part of the deal mentioned earlier. Does this mean Lewis is gone too or is Green coming off the bench? Oh, and Yi and his handlers are probably freaking out right now since he's still on the board and it's Milwaukee's pick....

7:59: Jeff Green's nickname? The Predator. Does this mean he can become invisible and will try and hunt down Carl Weathers?
