NBA Playoff Preview: Chicago Bulls (4) vs. Miami Heat (5)

Ahhh...the intrigue of the NBA...those wascally wabbits who ended up making these first round matchups certainly knew about drawing an audience--where we have not only the defending champs matched up against the team that blew the 2 seed in the last game of the season, but we also add the drama of having a matchup from last year's playoffs when the Heat dispatched the Bulls in six.

So, it would be an understatement to say that the Bulls have a lot of "proving" on their minds. Ben Gordon and his 21.4 ppg are back, along with Kirk Hinrich's 6.3. However, the Bulls have a little difference in their starting lineup by the name of Ben Wallace (maybe you've heard of him). Mr. Headband Rebel lead the team in rebounding, blocks, and-steals? You betcha. His presence this year has brought a new swagger to the Windy City, and one that could have them marching far in the playoffs if they can get their consistency.

Miami, on the other hand, is one of those teams that on paper you go "Well duh..yeah, they're good." But then you forget about one small little thing that places an asterisk on their lineup--injuries. From Shaquille O'Neal's 42 game absence to Dwyane Wade's aching shoulder to other assortments of freakish ailings, Miami should have actually been known as "the Icy Heat". Although they say they're ready and coach Pat Riley definitely has the guns to continue leading them, this question mark is bigger than the Riddler.

While Miami has the intangible experience and the "right time" theory, my feeling is that Chicago's chip on their shoulder, Coach Scott Skiles' passion, and Wallace's defensive presence will lead them past the Heat, although it will be a great series.

Prediction: Chicago takes it in six, reversing last year's playoff loss and setting up a second round matchup against the hated Pistons. (Cue crowd--oooooooooooohhhhhh)
