NBA Trade Shenanigans: Kevin Garnett to Lakers?

Word of advice if you go to L.A....don't yell at Kobe. He's sensitive.

Well this is starting to get fun. As we approach the NBA Draft the trade rumors are starting to fly and this one could be getting a bit serious. There has been talk of a four team deal that would put Kevin Garnett in the purple and gold. The Lakers, T'Wolves, Pacers and Celtics are involved and here's the what the trade would look like according to some people in the know...

Lakers Get: Kevin Garnett, Marco Jaric

Pacers Get: Andrew Bynum, Lamar Odom

Celtics Get: Jermaine O'Neal

T'Wolves Get: Gerald Green, Sebastian Telfair, Theo Ratliff, Pacers #19 Draft Pick, and Celtics #5 Draft Pick

Now that's quite the blockbuster. Not only does KG find a new home with the Lakers, but Jermaine O'Neal goes to the Celtics. The Pacers would get Lamar Odom to replace a bit of O'Neal's scoring and they get a young player in Bynum that could grow into a star. The T'Wolves get a slew of younger talent and cap space and a couple of first round draft picks to kick start the rebuilding process. This trade seems to work well for everyone...well except apparently for the Celtics.

The LA Times is now reporting that the Celtics have backed out of the trade talks since they don't like what they are getting in this deal. They do have a point. Of all the teams in this trade they seem to be getting the short end of the stick. They are giving away pretty much all of their valuable trade pieces and only getting O'Neal in return. While he is still a good player, he's not the superstar he was about three years ago. I can see where Danny Ainge is getting a bit of cold feet.

The one thing this does throw into question is whether or not Kobe Bryant would remove his trade demand if KG came in. At least the Lakers are trying to do what they can to keep him around, and that should count for something. I'm sure this isn't the last we're going to hear about this trade in the coming days and I only expect the talk of trades throughout the NBA to heat up a lot as we approach the draft on Thursday (don't forget to check out my live blog of the Draft starting at 7:30 PM that night).
