They had to have known that they had a good shot at putting more pressure on the Atlanta Hawks. I mean, both teams were playing at home, but the Indiana Pacers had the Charlotte Bobcats, who are the poster child for underachieving, and the Hawks had the Boston Celtics, who have the NBA's best record. Advantage Indiana, right? Nope. Not so much.
The Hawks ended up getting beat by the Celtics in the fourth quarter, and what do the Pacers do? Yep, you got it--they lose at home to Charlotte. So, not only did they choke on a golden opportunity, they basically made their chances to the playoffs down to basically nil.
With two games remaining, all it will take is for the Hawks to win 1 game or the Pacers to lose 1 game. The biggest test for the Pacers will be at Washington on Monday, who has been streaking and really clicking now that Gilbert Arenas is healthy. Meanwhile, the Hawks finish the season at Miami--the team with the worst record in the league. So saying that the Pacers' chances are basically nil is a bit of an understatement.
