Pacific Heights: Suns still the team to beat

Ok, ok, preseason doesn't make too much of a difference--kind of. In a sense, not only do teams try to get their sea legs for the grueling season ahead, but they are also looking for chemistry and development of role players. And while it's no surprise to many people, the team that looks like the one that has gotten "the farthest" with the chemistry and out and out ability in the Pacific division is none other than the Phoenix Suns.

While many said the Suns were "setting" last season when they didn't get to the NBA Finals, their pickup of positive energy and veteran experience in Grant Hill was a godsend to a team that had been marred by naysayer Shawn Marion's grumpiness during the offseason. While the team lost Kurt Thomas to Seattle and some are critical of the lack of potential down in the post, Phoenix's "free" system leaves many teams gasping for breath, and also exploits weaknesses to the bitter core. If it weren't for the Spurs dictating the slow-down, constant tempo in the playoffs last year, we may be talking about a Suns repeat. Steve Nash, Amare Stoudemire, Boris Diaw, Leandro Barbosa...the list goes on and on for talent on this team.

While Dallas and San Antonio are still amazing teams, this could be the Suns year in the Western Conference. One thing is for sure--they are still the class of the Pacific, even if Kobe stays with LA (although we all know the end of that future equation).
