Pistons still smiling after shocking loss

Yep, they were favored in double digits. Yep, they had a 15 point lead in the third quarter. Yep, they lost.

Wait--what?

The Detroit Pistons, who haven't finished the season in anything less than the Eastern Conference Finals for the last five years, were stunned at home by the upstart Philadelphia 76ers in game 1. Even though they had chances to win the games and missed some critical free throws (ahem, Chauncey Billups), the Pistons aren't sweating--yet.

The Sixers are the seven seed in the East, but that to me is misleading--we're talking about a team that has been red-hot in 2008, and this type of win actually wasn't much of a surprise--because in typical fashion, they didn't quit when the chips were down and have gained home court advantage. But Detroit is a veteran playoff team, so losing one game is not a big deal--even though the last two series the Pistons have played in where they lost game 1 they ended up losing the series.

They may be calm, cool, and relaxed on the inside, and maybe that's justifiable. But that's exactly what Philly likes to see--overconfidence. Because if the "Andres" have anything to say about it, Philadelphia will pull the biggest upset of the first round.
