Raptors kick off season with big W

Ok, so it was just the 76ers, but hey--a win is a win in the NBA, and the Toronto Raptors opened the 2007-08 season in style by defeating Philly in a not-as-close-as-the-score indicates game. So, what looks like preliminarily different about the Raptors?

1. They shot the lights out from the arc. For the night, they hit 56% of the their 3-balls, the highest team percentage out of all teams that played on Wednesday night. One would think that this would be simply by the addition of Jason Kapono, but this was a team effort, and since one of the things I pointed out about Toronto during their playoff loss to New Jersey last year was the obvious deficit from long-range, this has great implications.

2. They have got to box out. The 76ers are not exactly rebounding phenoms, yet Reggie Evans snuck in for six offensive boards and it could have spelled disaster for the Raptors. While Toronto has never really had a dominant rebounder to count on, it must be looked at in game planning or else you will find many box scores with guys that are seven foot tall with unpronounceable names getting double figures---alot.

Overall, I liked the look of the team--chemistry seems pretty good right now. Chris Bosh "laid his thang down" and TJ Ford had a great game. So far--so good!
