Report: Stoudamire wants trade from Griz

damon.jpeg

It was kind of odd how it all went down. The Grizzlies have been mired in another losing season, and the front office was looking for some answers. And mysteriously, Damon Stoudamire was put on the inactive list, and Rookie phenom Mike Conley Jr. got his debut in his hometown of Indianapolis this weekend.

Hmm...indeed.

Well, now that everyone who has a brain has figured out that the inactivity is not due to an injury, a report from the Memphis Commercial Appeal notes that Stoudamire has asked to be traded or his contract bought out. Stoudamire has played in the NBA for 13 years, and with coach Marc Iavaroni trying to push more PT to the younger players, it appears that we have an NBA version of age discrimination going on. Not that Stoudamire has been playing at an all-star level, averaging 7 points a game on 39% marksmanship from the field. Not exactly starter numbers by any means.

Still, he's obviously ticked and after one game of being benched, he's calling to have a new place. This is the kind of spoiled and classlessness of NBA players that I can't stand. Damon, you had a good run and you have been respected as a decent player, but it's time to face facts that your understudy, Mr. Conley, is ready to start. Your team is 9-22 and it is time for a change. Sit on the bench, help when you can, and earn your paycheck. End of story.

Of course, the Grizzlies will probably end up granting his wishes and sending him off to another purgatory like Seattle where he can play....but what for? It's not like he's going to be an all-star again, in the hall of fame, or has an obvious need to play for a championship. Don't sour 13 years, Damon. Be the bigger man here.
