Riley leaving bench to scout?

priley.jpg

The Miami Heat are deplorable. They have zero chance of making the playoffs, they have been down since the beginning of the season, and they will almost certainly have one of the best chances at getting the highest lottery pick. And now, with all of these things pretty--well-almost positively--certain, their coach, Pat Riley, has said that he may miss some games to scout the NCAA talent.

I couldn't disagree more.

Mr. Riley, I know you have NBA championship rings, I know you have two differing titles which deals with player personnel, but your first and foremost job is with this team as their coach. If you don't want to coach and step down, do so, but don't just leave the wife at home to go see some available mistresses. The guys you have on the Heat may not all be that great, but they are your team, and you need to be there until the bitter end--it's the responsibility you took--for better or for worse.

Plus--aren't their guys that are HIRED to be NBA Scouts? What does this say for those guys, when you quit on your team--even if it is for one measly game--to do their job? Pat, I am not dismissing your abilities, but this far beyond tasteless and unnecessary. You need to take a step back and think about what you are doing and what message this sends to your team and their fans.
