Rumor: Mavs, Cavs interested in Allan Houston

Following the trend of resurrecting the "oldies but goodies" of the NBA, the Dallas Mavericks and Cleveland Cavaliers are rumored to be in discussion for Allan Houston, the former New York Knicks guard who last played in 2004-2005.

The message is evidently clear now to teams: Older, more mature players can still assist the team in certain roles and should be relished for what they can bring to a team. Some think that once you are past your prime, you're past your prime, end of story. In reality, players like Houston and Reggie Miller can not only function as a backup for injuries or a "spark", but can also function as a coach on the court because of their experience. It's almost crazy that teams haven't latched onto this theory for a while now, but with guys like this still willing to play, teams that are "on the brink" should be grasping this concept and running with it--and evidently, that's the plan.

Houston is a career 40% shooter from the arc and 86% from the charity stripe. These are the two areas teams are looking to exploit, and to me--the Cavs need him more than the Mavs do. We'll see if the "unretirement" parties continue this offseason.....
