Rumor: Stoudamire to Suns

stoudamire.jpg

Damon Stoudamire wants a new place to play. The Suns need a backup point guard. It's like Reese's peanut butter cups, right? The perfect combination?

Maybe.

The rumor mill has produced that Stoudamire could be traded to the Suns, which would oddly put two Stoudamires on the same team (for such an unusual name, that IS odd). The problem is that Damon is asking for this trade or buyout from his current team, the Memphis Grizzlies, because he is pouting that he has been benched in favor of rookie Mike Conley. So to go to a team that is at least winning is a good start, but it's obvious he will be there to backup Steve Nash. So will Stoudamire accept that role there? Perhaps. However, it's also obvious that he just is ticked at the Grizzlies at how they handled the demotion and not being straight up about things.

The Suns definitely need someone to spell Nash, who has a history of back problems and needs ample rest during games. His outside shooting is something the Suns can use, but the down note is that he's a little guy for an already smallish team. So to say he's a perfect fit is not exactly it, but he's definitely one of the best resources available. We'll see, I guess.
