One would think that such a tech-savvy guy like Mark Cuban would love the blogosphere. One would also think that that a guy who seems to be so anti-establishment would embrace everything that is pure about blogging. One would have no problem in assuming that since Cuban blogs himself, he would definitely be chummy with those would-be writers.
One would have thought wrong.
In the NBA's first "blogging policy", Cuban has noted that media bloggers, regardless if they are part of the journalist world and blog for major newspapers, will not be allowed in the Dallas Mavericks locker room. Cuban's reasoning stems from the precedent setting of it all, that if he allows a professional blogger, where are those lines drawn? If like someone, say me, receives compensation for a blog, then why is that different from the writer from the Dallas newspaper? Cuban says there is no distinction.
Why was this move precipitated? Did Cuban have incessant requests from 13 year old Mavs bloggers who thought they could talk their way into the locker room? Is he Willy Wonka-ing us by hiding his everlasting gobstopper from the blogging community? It doesn't make sense--and while Cuban obviously has an understanding that blogging is by far different from regular journalistic standards, making a complete line across all boundaries is a little--well, non-Cuban, in my opinion. Cuban, for the most part, has been somewhat of a beacon to the "everyman" fan of the NBA, and now....not so much.
