Shaq on the Suns: The Aftermath

shaqsuns.jpg

Shaquille O'Neal for Shawn Marion and change. Suns and the Heat. Wow.

This would have been something a few years ago. Now, it's just weird.

First of all, why would the Suns even think about this? It's like adding a tortoise to a rabbit team. It just doesn't add up. His injuries, his attitude, his age, his lack of production--why Lord why? The mary jane must be ripe in Phoenix, because Steve Kerr sure is smoking something here.

If it was even a marginal player that could stay with the team's up-tempo philosophy, a la Marcus Camby, who is more than marginal, etc., it would make total sense. But this is just mind-jolting, and for a team that was supposedly on its last leg, it has basically taken its own knees out--literally. If there were a need for there to be some presence down low, it would make sense, but the Suns already have Amare Stoudamire, and again--why Lord why???

While O'Neal will be able to bring at least some changes for teams that play against the Suns defensively when the get into their half-court game, the fact is that the half-court game really doesn't exist for them--it's more of an exception than a rule. Guess not anymore, eh?

Somewhere in Phoenix Steve Nash has to be shaking his head.
