Tarpley Sues NBA over Disabilities Act

In the ever-increasing world of lawsuits, here's a new one: former Michigan star Roy Tarpley has sued the NBA over refusing to reinstate him due to the Americans with Disabilities Act. The disability? His recovering drug and alcohol habit.

Seriously.

"Tarpley is a qualified individual with a disability within the meaning of the ADA, in that he has a disability in the form of past drug and alcohol abuse, which substantially limits at least one of his major life activities," as documented in the the 46-page lawsuit, which was filed in Houston federal court. In July 2006, Tarpley filed a charge of discrimination against the NBA with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. In May, the EEOC sided with the player, ruling the NBA and the Mavericks violated the disabilities act by failing to reinstate Tarpley, who has passed all drug tests he's taken in the last four years.

The 42-year-old Tarpley said the lawsuit is not about trying to play again but about clearing his name...Whoops, I almost had coke coming out my nose laughing at that one....

But of course, in this day and age, people can sue McDonald's for coffee being too hot, making them fat, whatever, so why should this surprise me? It doesn't, it's just another way for a bum to make easy money off of negative publicity. Get bent, Tarpley.
