That Deng Achilles! Bull still hurting

lden.jpg

The Chicago Bulls most valuable player can arguably be named as Luol Deng. Averaging almost 18 points a game and just shy of 7 boards per contest, Deng is the sneaky-quick forward that really has allowed for guards Kirk Hinrich and Ben Gordon open up their games and has played kind of the Scottie Pippen role from the Bulls of the '90s.

So when a player of that caliber goes down with any injury, it is potentially disastrous for the team. When Deng went down in early November, the team went 0-3 without him. Now, he has tendinitis flaring up in his achilles tendon and has not played since January 3rd. The Bulls have been 2-1 without him, but he was supposed to be back for last night's game and now is still day-to-day as it continues to bother him. The Bulls rushed Andres Nocioni back last year too fast with his fascia issue in his foot, and they'll certainly play it safe with Deng, even though the team, with some momentum forming behind new coach Jim Boylan, could really use him to continue their onward descent.

These types of injuries can be extremely nagging, and with Deng's cutting ability, having an achilles that is not 100% basically nullifies his effectiveness. Stay tuned.
