Gary Payton, the enigmatic guard who for many years was known as "The Glove" for his defensive prowess, may not be returning to the Heat next year, according to coach Pat Riley. The team has been pursuing James Posey and PJ Brown in light of Payton's probably retirement.
GP has not gone on record that he is retiring, but has been hinting at it for quite some time. The 17-year vet has been an all-star 9 times and won a title with Miami in 2006. I would say that this move would be bad for Payton--because the movement thus far this offseason is to get guys that are nearing or even out of retirement--so he can still cash in on his name for a while now, in my opinion.
Payton will be turning 38, but according to Riley, who lists him as one of his all-time favorite players, will be making his decision pretty soon, according to Heat officials. Stick around, Gary!
