Thomas Fined 50K for Defending Marbury

Poor Isiah Thomas. He can't seem to catch a break. Vilified often and virtually ever praised, he's now taken a stiff $50,000 fine for commentary made in defense of Stephon Marbury, whom he thinks is getting singled out by referees.

"I see a lot of other players drive to the basket and get fouled and go to the foul line, and I don't understand what he's done to receive the type of treatment he's getting and the lack of respect he is getting from the officials," Thomas said in frustration after the Knicks lost to the Hornets on Saturday evening.

It should be pointed out that the Knicks are near the top of free throws attempted per game, although Marbury averages a paltry 5.2 per game. Perhaps Isiah should work on the lack of respect he gets as a coach and manager than crying about Starbury not getting to the charity stripe enough; if Thomas could coach his way out of a wet paper bag perhaps he wouldn't need Marbury at the line to win games for him.

Nonetheless, at least he is showing some fire and common sense, a trait that Knicks fans think has been missing ever since he donned a Knicks cap and took over in more than one way. Perhaps there IS some life in the 'ole girl....
