Yes, we all know that certain players, when not with their teams, have an extremely detrimental effect on their progress. Others' absence is not so much--even if they are a great player--because of the other players on the team. When Tracy McGrady went down with yet another injury, there was no joy in Houston, but there was the thought that with ultra-talented Yao Ming, hopefully the Rockets wouldn't lose too much ground.
Well, that didn't turn out exactly as they thought--but they have learned that after McGrady has returned, the duo and everyone else has moved up their game another level. Since T-Mac has returned, the Rockets have blasted off to an 8-1 record, and they have now won 8 consecutive road games--that's huge.
McGrady has always been questioned for his ability to take a team as his own and move them throughout the playoffs. While that has not happened--ever--McGrady has yet to be out of the first round--his inspired play and the Rockets now look like a legitimate contender and not just a pretender. They could very well be the team of the second half considering how things have gone lately.
