Wade's season over

wade.jpg

What a major disapointment this season has been for the Miami Heat. Or has it? Today Pat Riley announced that Dwyayne Wade would miss rest of the season because of knee pain that has bothered him all season. Wade is playing in his fourth season and havs never been known for his durability. Last season he missed 31 games. But is there more motive than just resting he knee?

The Heat are going nowhere fast this season. They just acquired Shawn Marion, who, if he resigns will be a great addition. Why not rest your superstar in hopes of losing more game? I know teams would never admit to it, but I think at this point of the season why not? Marion and Wade are young. Get a top 3 pick and start building over again. I have no problem with this game plan. Then again, I'm not a Heat fan either.

The concept isn't new. Tank games when you know you don't have a chance of getting into the playoffs. But when you're paying $30-100 a ticket don't you want to see the best players on the team giving their best effort? That's the million dollar question that team owners have to answer. I'm sure the owners of the Cavaliers are glad they "played youngsters" in order to lose a few games in 2003.
