Although he's entering quite the fray in Seattle, Paul Westhead was all smiles as he was introduced as the Sonics newest assistant coach to head coach P.J. Carlesimo, who has been a long-time friend of Westhead's.
After leading the Phoenix Mercury to the WNBA title just two weeks ago, Westhead jumped ship rather quickly to join the embattled Sonics, who are in a tussle with the city over moving to Oklahoma City. The WNBA crown was the second title for the 68-year-old Westhead, who also won the NBA championship in 1980 as a rookie coach with the Los Angeles Lakers. He is the only coach to win titles in both leagues.
"We are extremely fortunate to have Paul Westhead join our coaching staff," Carlesimo said in a statement. "He will be a great resource to our talented players, and also to his fellow coaches."
And plus he gets to go in the locker room now!! :)
