Earlier, Chris Bosh used Youtube to try to gain him votes in the All-Star voting with his cheesy but hilarious "Texas Car Salesman" ad. It didn't gain him a starting role over Kevin Garnett, but he still made the team as a reserve. Now, Rudy Gay is using the Youtube route--but for the dunking contest.
Gay is asking others to submit their ideas as to what dunks he should use in the contest--he is going to pick the best three and try to simulate them in the competition. Now, of course, there are limitations--I mean it has to be safe, and actually "doable" by Gay (i.e. something where they would be jumping off a trampoline and doing it is probably not something that Gay wants to do anyways).
Even if it doesn't get an absolute huge or ultimately creative response, the fact is that his ploy may ultimately gain him the crown simply on merit alone. It is amazing publicity for him (hello, I am writing about him!!) and you know it will be something the judges and media will grab onto. Wise move, Mr. Gay, wise move.
