Will Mavericks undercut Suns for Brown out of spite?

So, we all know about the Phoenix Suns and Dallas Mavericks rivalry. It dates back to when the Suns got Steve Nash after he had left Dallas and of course the rise in talent both teams have accomplished over the past few years.

Now, with Kevin Garnett gone to the East and the number of free agents waning, the Suns need to replace Kurt Thomas, and P.J. Brown seems to be the most likely fit. However, the rumor mill has it that owner Mark Cuban may go out and get Brown simply so that the Suns don't have him.

Schoolyard game? Maybe. Smart? Absolutely.

The Suns may be headed for some big moves now with Steve Kerr at the helm, and Cuban knows he has to stay ahead of the game, especially in the face of last season's embarassing loss in the first round to Golden State. Brown has also been a subject of signing with the Celtics (who hasn't?), so if the Mavs end up with him, it's simply to covet.
