Witnessing the legend that is Jason Kidd

I understand that we all have witnessed some pretty great players in the span of about 20 years. With visions of Michael Jordan, Larry Bird, Magic Johnson, Charles Barkley, Patrick Ewing, Reggie Miller, and as recently as Kobe Bryant, Tim Duncan, Lebron James, Shaquille O'Neal, and so many more, there have been pedastals that the NBA players of the future will have quite the time trying to reach.

However, none of them will be like Jason Kidd. I know that Kidd doesn't have a ring, he really hasn't been someone that has really come close to being the MVP type that so many endorsers drool over, but what he is symbolizes something that is rare: a complete player. Harkening back to the days of Oscar Robertson who "averaged a triple double", the books may need to eventually be rewritten to include Kidd who posted his 50th career triple double with the Nets and 88th overall.

That is amazing.

In a league where the scorers dominate, the defenders sometimes peak, and the drama never ceases, having a guy on your team that can score, pass, rebound, and many other things--including being a floor leader overall--makes him a valuable commodity. I remember following Kidd even when he was a youngster at Cal, and even then I knew I was witnessing something special. Before it's all said and done, he could be regarded as one of the best ever. I love him for his soft spoken attitude, his undying grit and heart, and the fact that he just really is a great guy. Sure, he's had his share of media blitzes and sometimes can be regarded as a loner, but Kidd is the epitome of what NBA players should be: unselfish, playing hard night in and night out, and continually putting themselves on the line for the team. Like Duncan, Kidd represents the anti-Kobe, and I salute him for a job well done.

It won't be long before the NBA will celebrate his career 100th triple double.
